A solitary coal bunker is the last remaining piece of architecture on this redeveloped ground. The red sandstone tenements in the background suggest what was once there.

This painting is part of the series ‘Outbuildings’. Inspired by the mood and muted tones of old tinted photographs, daguerreotypes and colourised film, this body of work explores the theme of time and the conversation between the land and the layers of man-made structures upon it. Focussing on the spaces in between, ‘Outbuildings’ explores the architecture in the hidden parts of the urban landscape where time stands still.
